From Chasing Sass la Petite : The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela is a feature film by Mr Olaf de Fleur Johannesson, an Icelandic director. This film claims that it is a feature film about a Filipina transsexual prostitute, but in reality it's about every one of us.
I'll not write my full review yet because it will spoil the raw beauty of this film. Moreover, I'm too overwhelmed to write it yet. Here are some of my views about it:
1. This film made me smile, cry, sad, depressed, optimistic, pessimistic, angry, laugh, and think (a lot). This film did everything to me EXCEPT lie.
2. When I first watched it, I didn't cry because I was trying to emotionally detach myself from it - I had to give a sensible feedback afterwards. When I got home, I watched it several times. It haunted me so much. After the third time, my tears burned my eyes. It felt like I cried my most profound tears.
3. This film has so much humanity in it. It presented our lives without being sensationalized, and exoticized.
4. It's a wake up call to the other Filipina woman: the Filipina women of transgender/transsexual experience (or as the sex tourists call us: "ladyboys").
5. You don't have to be a Filipina transgender activist like me or a Filipina transsexual/transgender woman in order for you to feel the same way I'm feeling right now. You just have to have a beating heart, a compassionate spirit, and an open mind in order for you to understand the simple yet intricate and iridescent message of The Amazing Truth of Queen Raquela.
