Gay News From 365Gay.com (Vancouver, British Columbia) Jane Rule, one of the pioneers of lesbian fiction, has died complications from liver cancer. She was 76.
Born in New Jersey on March 28, 1931, Jane Rule was raised in the American Midwest and California.
In 1952 she graduated from Mills College and moved to Canada four years later, settling in British Columbia. Rule taught intermittently at the University of British Columbia until 1976 when she moved to Galiano Island to devote her full time to writing.
She is celebrated internationally for her fiction and her non-fiction.
Her career began in 1964 with the publication of her novel Desert of the Heart. One critic at the time wrote of the lesbian themed book: "But all the time you keep turning to the photograph of the author on the jacket and wondering how such a nice looking woman could ever have chosen do distasteful a subject."
But that is why Jane Rule was so important. Rule was one of the first out-writers to write openly about being a lesbian in major fiction.
But, it was her 1975 book "Lesbian Issues" that catapulted her onto the world stage. Rule attempted to set down what it means to be a lesbian. To do this, she beautifully measured her own attitudes toward sexuality against the images made by other women writers including Gertrude Stein, Willa Cather, Radclyffe Hall, Vita Sackville-West and others.

The Canadian Press: 25 years after AIDS exploded, cases among gay men on the rise: "The commentary looks only at trends in western countries, where men who have sex with men have always made up the lion's share of people living with HIV-AIDS. They noted there was a 13-per-cent increase in American MSM living with HIV-AIDS between 2001 and 2005. A 10-fold increase in syphilis cases among MSM in the United States over the same period is further evidence of an increased frequency in unprotected sex, the authors said. HIV-AIDS rates among men who have sex with men are also in the increase in Canada."

The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela
From Chasing Sass la Petite : The Amazing Truth About Queen Raquela is a feature film by Mr Olaf de Fleur Johannesson, an Icelandic director. This film claims that it is a feature film about a Filipina transsexual prostitute, but in reality it's about every one of us.
I'll not write my full review yet because it will spoil the raw beauty of this film. Moreover, I'm too overwhelmed to write it yet. Here are some of my views about it:
1. This film made me smile, cry, sad, depressed, optimistic, pessimistic, angry, laugh, and think (a lot). This film did everything to me EXCEPT lie.

GlossLip » Oscar De La Hoya May Or May Not Like Frilly Things: "We’ve been waiting for conclusive word on the whole “Oscar The Drag Queen” (sounds like a very special Sesame Street episode) controversy, and it seems we might never get to the bottom of it. Fortunately, ETonline is on the case and has obtained high res versions of the alleged photos featuring boxing champ De La Hoya in racy outfits, appearing with an “adult entertainer.” ETonline contacted forensic photo expert, Jeff Sedlik, and here are his findings: “Now that ET has provided me with access to high resolution images, I have been able to more carefully analyze the images,” says Sedlik. “In this instance, I can’t find any conclusive evidence that they have or have not been retouched, but if they were retouched, this was done by a skilled professional. Retouching and head swapping is a pervasive practice, in everything from car ads, to movie posters, and even in wedding photos. Photography these days is a house of mirrors. You can do anything. It is Alice in Wonderland, and we’re in the rabbit hole.”"

Maureen McCormick Eve Plumb: "Wow! A Maureen McCormick Eve Plumb lesbian fling back in the Brady Bunch heyday, so here’s some hot pics of Marcia Brady and her sister Jan Brady. Maureen McCormick has written a book claiming that while she and Eve Plumb were playing Marcia and Jan Brady on The Brady Bunch, they had themselves a little girl-girl fling: “The most explosive comments will be how Maureen McCormick, a blonde, blue-eyed cutie, developed a crush on Eve Plumb, which led to some sexual play. This book will certainly come as a shocker. While Maureen is not a lesbian, she reveals there were some sexual hijinks going on behind the scenes.”"

Dear Ask a Fag Hag:
I'm a girl with a lot of queer friends that I just adore and love to hang out with. While hanging out at a gay bar this past weekend, the go-go boy we spent most of the night staring at gave me his number after his last dance. But I'm a little confused, if he's a gay man dancing for money from other gay men, isn't he therefore, gay?
I guess what I'm trying to say is I want to date this guy but I don't think I want someone who might go around and boink another dude behind my back. But if he really is gay, why did he give me his number saying "Call me?"
Jerry Lewis apologizes for anti-gay slur - Yahoo! News: "LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian Jerry Lewis apologized on Tuesday for his use of an anti-gay slur during the weekend broadcast of his annual Labor Day Telethon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The controversial remark came Monday afternoon in the 18th hour of the live national telecast, when a visibly weary Lewis, 81, was joking on stage, pretending to introduce members of someone's family as he mugged for the camera. 'Oh, your family has come to see you. You remember Bart, your oldest son, Jesse, the illiterate fag ...,' Lewis said, as he apparently caught himself and ceased the gag in mid-sentence, turning on his heel away from the camera."

AP: Craig reconsiders decision to resign - Yahoo! News: "BOISE, Idaho - Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening. 'It's not such a foregone conclusion anymore, that the only thing he could do was resign,' Sidney Smith, Craig's spokesman in Idaho's capital, told The Associated Press. 'We're still preparing as if Senator Craig will resign Sept. 30, but the outcome of the legal case in Minnesota and the ethics investigation will have an impact on whether we're able to stay in the fight — and stay in the Senate,' Smith said. Craig, a Republican who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. But since then, he's hired a prominent lawyer to investigate the possibility of reversing his plea, his spokesman said."

Bedazzled!: Anti-Gay Politician Says Blacks Responsible For Soliciting Gay Sex Charge (Tampa, Florida) State Rep. Bob Allen (R), a longtime foe of LGBT rights in Florida, has a bizarre excuse for being charged with offering a male cop $20 for oral sex in a washroom at a park.
He was busted last month in a sting at Veteran's Memorial Park in Titusville, Florida. (story)
In taped statements made by Allen to police following his arrest and released by the force Allen admits to soliciting the male officer but claims that it was the result of being nervous by the high number of black men in the park.
"I certainly wasn't there to have sex with anybody and certainly wasn't there to exchange money for it," Allen told officers.
Of the arresting officer Allen said in the tape, "This was a pretty stocky black guy, and there was nothing but other black guys around in the park."
He claimed he feared he "was about to be a statistic" would have said anything just to get away.
|Fortune 500 companies: 92% provide gay nondiscrimination policies | News | Advocate.com: "Equality Forum, a Philadelphia-based GLBT rights organization, has announced that more than 92% (463) of the 2007 Fortune 500 companies include sexual orientation in their employment nondiscrimination policies. According to the press release, when Equality Forum began contacting Fortune 500 companies in the fall of 2003, only 323 companies—or about 65%— provided sexual orientation protections. Equality Forum, along with professors Louis Thomas of University of Pennsylvania and Ian Ayres of Yale Law School, contacted 177 CEOs and human resources directors of companies that didn't offer nondiscrimination policies. By the fall of 2004, 405 (81%) had adopted protections."|
ScienceDaily: Are Homosexual Civil Unions A 600-year-old Tradition?: "Science Daily — A compelling new study from the September issue of the Journal of Modern History reviews historical evidence, including documents and gravesites, suggesting that homosexual civil unions may have existed six centuries ago in France. The article is the latest from the ongoing 'Contemporary Issues in Historical Perspective' series, which explores the intersection between historical knowledge and current affairs. Commonly used rationales in support of gay marriage and gay civil unions avoid historical arguments. However, as Allan A. Tulchin (Shippensburg University) reveals in his forthcoming article, a strong historical precedent exists for homosexual civil unions. Opponents of gay marriage in the United States today have tended to assume that nuclear families have always been the standard household form. However, as Tulchin writes, 'Western family structures have been much more varied than many people today seem to realize, and Western legal systems have in the past made provisions for a variety of household structures.'"

The Screaming Orgasm - After-Work happy Hour for Friday
The Screaming Orgasm, just what a girl needs on a Friday! Only my fag and two of his friends have showed up to my place without warning with three bottles of liquor, enough Thai Food for six and the Japanese film Okoge about my sisters in the land of the rising fag hags. It seems like an interesting flick and it shows that we are everywhere! So I doubt if we will get much past the phone to call cabs let alone make it to the bars.
So here's this Friday's drink suggestion. So memorize it and tell the bar boy you learned it from Unita Mann at Ask a Fag Hag!
3/4 oz Kahlua
3/4 oz Irish Cream
3/4 oz Amaretto
3/4 oz Vodka
Shake extremely well!
